Reconstruction from the Ground Up

The AAA office in Gulu developed the architectural plans for the site in March 2007. The Safety in Learning Project will use those plans to build a school that is child-focused and safe. The new Olya Primary School, once completed, will contain four renovated classrooms, six new classrooms, and two office spaces. There will be thre blocks of classrooms that surround a child-friendly play area. The class blocks have brick walls, concrete floors, and tin roofing. Sturdy construction will allow the school to remain open a thriving part of the Atiak community. Each classroom will be safely secured to prevent looting. Classrooms will contain a chalkboard and will be painted with child-friendly themes that encourage the children to learn and grow while also providing a cheerful educational environment. The new offices will allow Olya Primary to house its first library. The new classrooms will attract better teachers and enhance the overall quality of education at Olya Primary School.

The Total Project Cost:

Renovation of Existing Four Classrooms:   $20,000

Block of Two New Classrooms + Office  $30,000

Block of Four New Classrooms + Office +$55,000

Grand Total =    $105,000

Buy a Brick:

Olya Primary School can only grow if YOU help provide a strong foundation. As construction plans are finalized, Safety in Learning is placing “bricks” on sale. A total of 20,000 bricks are needed to build 10 classrooms and 2 offices. Please help us provide the bricks necessary to build a safe place for learning. For just $5 a brick you can help build a safe escape for thousands of children in Northern Uganda. You also can choose to provide the 2,000 bricks needed to build an entire classroom for $10,000.

A School Can be Built One Wall at a Time:

  • Brick = $5
  • Package of Bricks = $25
  • Block of Bricks = $100
  • Load of Bricks = $500
  • Complete Wall = $2,500
  • Entire Classroom = $10,000

You Can Make a Lasting Contribution:

If you have the means to help us build a classroom, please do so. Donations over $10,000 will be honored permanently at Olya Primary with the contributor’s name engraved on a plaque next to the classroom door. Our regular updates will keep you informed of all the successes obtained within the four walls you helped construct. The appreciation of generations of students, their families and teachers will be felt across the world.

Now is the Time to Give!

Your donations are needed now for construction to begin in July 2007. The children have told us continually how much they desperately want to attend school. We now have the opportunity to pave the way for them to become educated leaders who can provide a peaceful future for Uganda. We can do this one brick at a time!
